A couple's honeymoon is meant to be special. What people want from their honeymoon is as varied as the individuals themselves, but thankfully there exist options for everyone. And even in today's economy, couples can enjoy a romantic trip without exceeding their budgets.
The Greek Islands are a popular honeymoon choice. Many have 300 days of sunshine per annum, a slight bit better than back at home. The island of Mauritius is another popular choice, with its rich mixture of Portuguese, Indian, and Chinese cultures. The island has relaxing spas, beautiful beaches, and superb golf courses. Couples can also go diving around the gorgeous coral reefs or the shipwrecks off the northern coast.
For a different kind of island, couples can make the trip to New York to enjoy one of the many avant-garde hotels the island has to offer, along with the bustle of the city.
Honeymoons for Adventure-seekers
Couple who want an active, exciting honeymoon should try one of the Italian mountain resorts where they can experience both the beautiful views of hills of pine forests and the thrill of a tandem-jump. Such resorts also offer activities like archery and yoga…though the couple keen to jump off mountains may not be as thrilled about the latter. They could also go on safari in Africa or visit Peru's famous Inca trail in South America.
Couples marrying in the winter might prefer a snowy honeymoon. Many ski resorts throughout Europe and North America will offer the sort of luxurious settings a honeymoon needs. Or couples can choose a more rustic setting in Scandinavia, where they can stay in a cosy log cabin and take part in snowmobiling or dog sledding during the day. Sweden offers unforgettable midnight sunsets, too.
Today's economy has been tough on honeymoon budgets, but couples can still enjoy time away. Sticking close to home is one idea. Newlyweds can go to one of the UK's award-winning spas for a romantic weekend whilst also saving on travel costs. If going abroad, they should try to get cheap fares so they can spend more on the hotel. Morocco is a great choice – it's romantic, has a fantastic climate year-round, and is closer than options like the Caribbean, making it easier to find cheap flights. Couples should consider staying in a riad – a converted townhouse with an inner courtyard; they're great bargains for a budget destination honeymoon.
Given the breadth of available destinations, with enough planning even the budget-conscious couple can have the honeymoon of their dreams.
